About Jos Buurmans
Jos is a dedicated landscape photographer, deeply rooted in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand for over 15 years.
I am a dedicated landscape photographer based in Havelock North, at the foot of the iconic Te Mata Peak—a familiar presence in much of my work. Having called Hawke’s Bay home for over 15 years, I draw deep inspiration from the region’s diverse natural beauty. For me, landscape photography is far more than a craft; it’s a way of life that blends exploration, creativity, technology, and connection, offering both personal well-being and artistic fulfilment.
I stepped into a full-time practice in 2023 to more fully embrace the outdoors, expand my image collection, and share my passion through personalised workshops and thoughtful writing.
My work is driven by a fascination with the interplay of light and atmosphere—those fleeting moments when mood and landscape converge—and by a quiet reverence for the natural patterns and subtle structure of the land. Whether capturing scenes close to home or further afield, I strive not only to create evocative images but also to help others develop their own creative vision and forge a lasting connection with the natural world.

Even the most breathtaking landscapes can start to feel over-familiar when you photograph them often — especially when they’re right on your doorstep. But what if the key to reigniting your creative spark isn’t found in far-off places, but in learning to see the familiar differently? In this post, I share how shifting my focus from sweeping vistas to more intimate details helped me rediscover inspiration in the landscapes I thought I already knew — and how you can do the same.
