Hawke’s Bay Landscape Photographs

Scenic and intimate photographs of iconic and lesser known locations in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand

Blessed with fertile soils and a warm temperate climate, Hawke's Bay is known for its sun, wine and food.  It is also home to beautiful scenery and nature, and provides plenty of opportunities for landscape photographers.

I have called Hawke's Bay home for over 15 years and below are some of my favourite locations and photos.

Te Mata Peak: The Grand Panoramic View

Living 10 minutes away from the top of Te Mata Peak, I come here often. The main, structural elements of the view from the peak are always the same. However, the time of day, the season and atmospheric conditions always make it a unique experience. It’s an ever-changing constant.

Te Mata Peak: The Other Side

There’s more to Te Mata Peak then the grand view towards the bay. Looking in the opposite direction or walking around Te Mata Park provides quite a few photo opportunities as well.

Trees in Hawke’s Bay

Foggy Trees

Foggy mornings are one of the best times to be on top of Te Mata Peak. Often, the early morning fog obscures the land underneath and behind the trees, stripping the landscape back to a minimalist scene.

Tree Reflections

There’s something magic about calm mornings at lakes. They are ideal times to explore the symmetry created by the reflections of trees in the water.

Recurring Trees

There’s a particular row of trees, located near Pukehou, that has been the subject of my photography for as long as I have lived in Hawke’s Bay.

Tree-lined Avenues

One of the reasons I always look forward to autumn are the colourful trees along the roads, parks and driveways around Havelock North and Hastings.

Hawke’s Bay Beaches and Coastlines

Hawke’s Bay has some beautiful beaches. Loved by locals, but not well known by visitors. Beaches include Waimarama Beach, Ocean Beach, Kairakau Beach, Waipatiki Beach, and the list goes on.

Waterfalls

But wait there are more great Hawke's Bay spots
