Photographing Northland

Peak Light Newsletter March 2025

Hi everyone, and welcome to this edition of the Peak Light newsletter.
Whether you’re here for the latest updates, photography insights, or captivating stories from New Zealand, I’m excited to share what’s new.

In this issue, I share my visual journey following the Twin Coast Discovery Highway to capture Northland’s most iconic landscapes.

Photographing Northland: A Journey Along the Twin Coast Discovery Highway

Join me on a two-week journey through Northland, New Zealand’s "Winterless North," capturing its most breathtaking landscapes. From the ancient kauri forests and giant dunes of the west to the golden beaches of the east, this visual adventure takes you along the Twin Coast Discovery Highway.

I revisit iconic locations such as Waipoua Forest, Hokianga Harbour, and Cape Reinga, while uncovering hidden gems like Rarawa Beach’s dazzling white sands and the misty panoramas of Whangaroa Harbour. Each stop reveals Northland’s untamed beauty, shaped by time, wind, and water—offering endless inspiration for landscape photography. If you want to get ideas for your next trip, or want to browse the images I took, this article is for you.

Calendars for 2026

I know it’s early, but I am already looking ahead to next year! I’m putting together a stunning new calendar featuring my landscape photography from Hawke’s Bay and across New Zealand. Each month will showcase a carefully selected image that captures the beauty of our country, from misty mornings below Te Mata Peak to dramatic coastlines and rolling hills. If you’d love to bring a piece of Aotearoa’s natural beauty into your home (or gift it to someone special), let me know!

These will be limited edition calendars and I’m gauging interest before finalising details, so if you’d like to reserve a copy, just reply to this email.

I am travelling

I’m currently on a trip in the South Island, dedicating some time to taking photos. Starting in the Nelson/Tasman region, I’ll be making my way down the West Coast to Fiordland to hike the Routeburn Track. Hopefully, I’ll return with some incredible images to share!

I’ll have more details for you about this trip in the next newsletter, and I’ll also be talking about how to manage your photos while on the road. Stay tuned.
