Private 1-2-1 Landscape Photography Mentoring
A year of sustained, personal development in landscape photography.
Most workshops give you a day. This gives you a year. Spend one day a month — 8 hours, however you want to split it — with me over 12 months, living and breathing landscape photography together. It's for new and existing clients who want ongoing, personal tuition rather than a single session, and it works out cheaper than booking 12 individual Full Day 1-2-1 sessions separately.
No two months look the same. Some will be almost entirely in the field; others will lean into processing, printing, or portfolio work. The programme bends around where you are and what you're working toward, rather than following a fixed curriculum.
Who It's For
Photographers who want sustained, ongoing progress rather than a single workshop
New and existing clients — you don't need to have done one of my other workshops first
Anyone ready to commit to a full year of regular, dedicated development time
You'll get the most out of this programme once you're comfortable with your camera and the fundamentals of composition — if you're just starting out, Camera Foundations is a good place to begin first. If you've already done Seeing the Landscape and want to keep developing a personal, expressive approach over time rather than in a single session, this programme is a natural next step.
This programme currently runs in Hawke's Bay only.
What You Can Expect
Each month's 8 hours can be split however makes sense for where you're at — a sunrise or sunset shoot followed by a couple of hours of processing, then time spent talking through printing, social media, or your website portfolio, for instance. Every session is planned around your specific goals at that point, not a set template.
Field Sessions — Time out shooting, timed to the season and the conditions on the day. Locations vary throughout the year, but you'll typically be within an hour's drive of Havelock North. If there's a specific location high on your list, we can plan a session around it, weather and timing permitting.
Processing Sessions — Working through your images from the field, or from your own back-catalogue. This can run in person or over Zoom, whichever suits the month.
Development Sessions — Time spent on the parts of photography beyond the camera and the edit: preparing images for print, building a social media presence, or working on your website portfolio.
Between Sessions — You won't be left for four weeks with nothing in between. I'll check in regularly by email, and give you seasonal challenges and techniques to explore between our monthly days together. Alongside this, I'll share relevant material as we go — guides from my own website, documents covering whatever we're focused on that month, and anything else that fits your progress — so the learning continues beyond the time we spend together in person.
Format
12-Month Programme — One day (8 hours) a month for 12 months, split across Field, Processing, and Development Sessions in whatever combination suits you that month. It works out cheaper than booking 12 individual Full Day 1-2-1 sessions separately.
The 8 hours each month refers to the total duration of that session — driving, shooting, and any processing or development time included.
What You'll Need
Your camera and gear (spare batteries, memory cards, tripod), appropriate outdoor clothing for the season, and — for processing or development sessions — a laptop with Lightroom (and Photoshop, if relevant) installed. What you'll need will vary month to month depending on what we're focusing on.
A year's worth of mornings and afternoons — the range of conditions and seasons this programme gives you time to properly explore.

Some questions you may have
What if you can’t do a month?
Don’t worry, you can push your session to the next month for no extra charge (this can only be done a maximum of once per month - meaning the max sessions per month is 2). This does mean, however, that if you want to do 2 full days in a row and stay somewhere in-between (if you’re travelling), then you can do a 2-day session in one month.
Want me to travel to you and we shoot one of your local locations together?
My 1-2-1 sessions normally include reasonable travel within Hawke’s Bay. However, if you have a location of yours you want to get the best out of or simply practice at with a fresh pair of eyes (being Jos), then Jos can give you a quote to cover his travel expenses.
What if Jos is away?
Jos does occasionally travel outside the Hawke’s Bay. This could be to host workshops elsewhere or simply to have some time away. In that case, Jos will advise you well in advance and arrange a catch-up session.

Not ready for a 12-month commitment? Seeing the Landscape covers similar ground in a single session, and is a good way to see whether this way of working suits you before committing to a full year.
